Missing Approval Workflow Option in SharePoint 2013 (but see all other workflows?)

Using my MSDN Developer liscense, I signed up for Office 365 to do some SharePoint development. However, when I tried to add the Approval Workflow to a list, I didn't see it. Google showed me how to add workflows in the Sites Settings >> Site Administration >> Worflow Settings section.

Unfortunately, after activating the workflows in that section, I still do not see the Approval Workflow.

All I see are:

  • Collect Feeback - SP 2010
  • Collect Signatures - SP 2010
  • Disposition Approval
  • Three State

I saw online that some people suggested deactivating the workflows in Site Administration and reactivating them, but I don't seem to have a way to do that.

Jimshelley,

This is really a question about Office 365 Developer, we in MSDN dont know what an approval workflow is.  Please see the bolded section below.

Thanks,
Mike

Unfortunately your post is off topic here, in the MSDN Subscriptions feedback forum, because it is not feedback regarding the MSDN Subscription. This is only one forum among the many that are on the MSDN Discussion Forums, and given the content of your post, you likely chose the wrong forum.  This is a standard response Ive written up in advance to help many people (thousands, really.) who happen to post their question in my forum, but please dont ignore it.  The links provided below Ive collected to help with many issues weve seen.

For technical issues with Microsoft products that you would run into as an end userof those products, one great source of info and help is http://answers.microsoft.com, which has sections for Windows, Hotmail, Office, IE, and other products.   Office related forums are also here: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/support/contact-us-FX103894077.aspx

For Technical issues with Microsoft products that you might have as an IT professional (like more technical installation issues, or other IT issues), you should head to the TechNet Discussion forums at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-us, and search for the product in question.

For issues with products you might have as a Developer (like how to talk to APIs, what version of software do what, or other developer issues), you should head to the MSDN discussion forums at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-us, and search for your product, technology, or issue.

If youre asking a question particularly about one of the Microsoft Dynamics products, a great place to start is here: http://community.dynamics.com/.

DreamSpark students with problems using the Secure Download Manager should read this: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/27085f1c-daf4-4ee3-99eb-5f1ac715d959/dreamspark-students-using-the-sdm-please-read?forum=msdnfeedback

If you really think your issue is related to the MSDN Subscription, and I screwed up, I apologize!  Please repost your question to the discussion forum and include much more detail about your problem, that could include screenshots of the issue (do not include subscription information or product keys in your screenshots!), and/or links to the problem youre seeing.

If you really have no idea where to post this question, then you shouldnt have posted here, because we have a forum just for you!  Its called the Where is the forum for? forum and it's here: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/whatforum/

Moving your post to the off topic forum.

Hi,

According to your description, my understanding is that you can't find the approval workflow when adding a workflow in list settings.

In my Office 365 environment, when I enabled the feature "Workflows" in site settings-> Site Collection Features, then the approval workflow can be found .

I suggest you can deactivate the feature and then reactivate the feature to test if it works.

If the issue still exists, I suggest you can create a new site collection and activate the feature to test if it works.

Thanks

Hm...this may be a permissions issue owing to my developer version of Office 365.

I don't seem to be able to Activate or Deactivate Workflows on the Features page.

The only Workflow Options I see are:

  • Workflow Task Content Type

Adds the SharePoint 2013 Workflow Task content type to the site.

  • Workflows can use app permissions

Allow workflows to read from and to write to all items in this site.

Hi,

You can try to create a new site collection and make sure the "Workflows" feature is activated in Site Settings -> Site Collection Features

Thanks
