Minimum specification hardware and software for client pc
Hi,My organisation is new to Sharepoint and we are just setting out on a pilot project which will involve other partner organisations accessing the Sharepoint 2007 site that we will be hosting. Please can you advise what is the minimum recommended specification for client pc's to be used with MOSS 2007, and minimum versions of MS Office, MS Wordetc that are required in order for users to contribute to and edit documents on a site?Regards,Louise Russell

You don't need overly powerful machines, because the application is thin client web based except for your MS Office work.MS used a Pentium 3 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM client machine in their benchmarking last yearhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288633.aspx, so for want of a documented answer I'd set that as standard. Very achievable in this day and age.Choose your MS Office version on the integration with MOSS 2007 you'll get. MS Office 2003 minimum I'd say, Office 2007 will be even better.Client OS sufficient to run the Office product you choose.Make sure your network connections are speedy as you're sending information up and down the wire on a regular basis!Blog; http://www.the-north.com/sharepoint ---

Just to make a technical point, even office 97 "works" with SharePoint. It just has fewer integration options.It's a good/better/best kind of thing. --Paul Galvin of EMC Consulting, New York area

Louise, A bit of feedback would be useful. Do the specifications detailed here answer your question, or is there any further detail you need?Regards, JamieBlog; http://www.the-north.com/sharepoint ---

Following on from Paul's point about different levels of integration for different versions of MS Office, I dug up the following guidance on that from MS;
