We currently have WSS 3.0 running on our servers which is an extranet where our clients update, view the documents, Lists. Now we want to do 2 main thing:

1) Migrate from WSS 3.0 to sharepoint foundation 2013: I came to know that there is no direct way to migrate from sharepoint foundation 2007 to 2013. So, I am appointed to copy the code from 2007 version and have to modify it to be suitable for 2013. Will it be possible.

2) To create the VM running sharepoint foundation 2013 on Azure. We are having SQL server running on local machines. Can we use our local data (connecting to local SQL servers)from Azure VM(windows server 2012)?

Could you please give some useful references to get started in this process.
