Migration from WSS 3.0 to sharepoint foundation 2013

We have extranet sharepoint set up with WSS 3.0(2007 version). Our current plan is to migrate from 2007 to sharepoint foundation 2013. Also to host the server running SP 2013 on a VM in Azure cloud.

What I have done is:

I set up one VM in Azure cloud, Windows Server 2012 Data storage, Installed sharepoint developer 2013. I think I have to install ISS 2012(web server). I am realy new to this sharepoint(just learning and doing my work). Can anyone please tell me what should I have to more to configure in the cloud to support SP 2013.

I ma supposed to connect and use the SQL servers running locally. So can we be able to connect to SQL servers remotely and use them for sharepoint foundation in VM? If so, Could you please give me more info on that.

I think currently we are having DNS, DHCP some thing running on our servers. So should I need such servers to be setup on VM in cloud or can I make use of them(local servers).

I might be ambiguous in explaining the situation as I am not clearly understood it. But, working hard to learn more on it.

Hi Anvesh,

To migrate WSS 3.0 to SharePoint Foundation 2013, we need to upgrade WSS 3.0 to SharePoint 2010 and then upgrade to SharePoint 2013.

For more details, please refer to the link below:

You can use local SQL server for SharePoint installed in Azure.

For more details, I recommend you to ask in Azure forum for the connections between Azure VMs and local servers.
