Migration from SCCM2012 R2 CU5 to SCCM 2012 R2 SP1

We have existing environment with SCCM 2012 R2 CU5 in our forest and looking to setup new environment for new company we bought with SCCM2012R2SP1 in their forest. There is two way transitive trust between forests.

Can we migrate some data from SCCM2012 R2 CU5 to SCCM 2012 R2 SP1?

Do we need to upgrade existing SCCM 2012 R2 CU5 to SP1 and then migrate data to new environment.

Mind me asking why would you get a new SCCM infra up. Why not just use the one you got to manage the customer you just bought. Will be a lot less management and SCCM support this even if you end up removing the trust.

When you said migrate data what do you mean exactly. If you mean export and import package/task sequence you don't need to update the CU5. If you mean do a migration using the migration section it should worked (change this to reflect Peter info).

But honestly you should probably just upgrade the current structure to 2012 r2 sp1 CU1 and manage the new forest with the same infra.

The official statement is that the migration is only supported when it's the same version (that doesn't mean that it won't work), see: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682006.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

Hi,

If you want to migrate you must upgrade the 2012 R2 CU5 site to R2 SP1, both environments must be on the same version, it is described on Technet :

"However, the following migration scenarios are now supported:"
  • Configuration Manager 2007 to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager SP2

  • Configuration Manager 2007 to System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager SP1

  • System Center 2012 Configuration Manager SP2 to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager SP2

  • System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager SP1 to System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager SP1
