Migration from MIIS to FIM 2010
Hi, I am trying to migrate from miis to FIM 2010 at customer place. I am following -http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff608268(WS.10).aspx My FIM server is windows server 2008 R2 . I am using a seperate machine for SQL server 2008 64 bit with SP2. Both the machines are domain joined. I have turned the firewall off on both the machines. My approach for migration is to install FIM Sync service and use "miis database" as an existing database during the installation. Note:- I have configured the miis database as instructed in the link mentioned above. Challenge:- During installation, i am getting an error - Product: Forefront Identity Manager Synchronization Service -- Error 25009.The Forefront Identity Manager Synchronization Service setup wizard cannot configure the specified database. Invalid column name 'object_type'. i found this post and tried to use the hotfix http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ilm2/thread/9fe82ee4-4ee1-4b8f-a0ea-a7a14fb1154b/ With this hotfix (standalone installer), my FIM Sync msi installer is not able to connect to the database server on the "Configure Forefront Identity Manager Synchronization service" screen, after entering the SQL Server address and the 'default instance', i am getting the error - "Forefront idenity manager is having trouble contacting SQL server using the provided information. Please note that Forefront Identity manager Synchronization service requires Micrososft SQL Server 2008 SP1 or better. Verify the version, server and instances names as well as firewall settings and try again" This above connection problem is coming only while running the hotfix installer and not while using the normal FIM installer. I am using the same SQL server and same (default) SQL instance fro both the installers. Please help!

I am having the same issue. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am setting up the test lab as described by the msft testlab setup documentation. I am on the step where I install the FIM Synch service, and it is saying it can't reach the sql1 box. I have all firewalls off. - Roy

I haven't seen this error, but I have upgraded MIIS 2003 to FIM 2010, and would recommend installing the SQL Management Tools on the FIM server--both for ease of administration and because this brings along the SQL 10 Native Client that certain bits of FIM silently require. --Steve

Make sure you have the SQL client tools installed on the FIM Synchronization Service box. And invoke the MSI using MSIEXEC and generate a log file that you can look at. What version of MIIS is the database currently at?

Mayank, 'Product: Forefront Identity Manager Synchronization Service -- Error 25009.The Forefront Identity Manager Synchronization Service setup wizard cannot configure the specified database. Invalid column name 'object_type'.' This error can be generated when the account installing the RTM product or a hotfix does not have sa permissions in the instance of SQL hosting the FIM Sync service. This is not necessarily the service account, the account running the sync service. It is the account performing the install. Glenn Zuckerman Microsoft Identity Technologies
