Migrating data to new SSP
Hi everyone: I had a question on migrating to a new SSP on MOSS 2007. We had a problem with an old SSP and migrated our web applications to a newly created SSP. However, the following data appears to be stored in the SSP database. We'd like to merge this data somehow but cannot find any tools to do so. 1. Site usage reports 2. Search query results - top pages etc 3. Best Bets, Keyword searches etc. Any direction on how to import this data? I am really hoping someone has run into this before since we have around two years analysis data stored which we'd absolutely hate to lose. Thanks! Ram K

Hi Ram, 1. Create new WebApp to host SharedServices a. Central Administration > Application Management > Create or Extend Web Application 2. Restore SSP a. Central Administration > Application Management > Manage this Farm's Shared Services > Restore Shared Services Provider i. Enter SSP Name > New Web App name > Existing MySite Host > SSP UserName > SSP Password ii. SSP Db > the Old db usually SharedServices1_Db iii. SSP Search Db > the Old db usually SharedService1_Search_db iv. Click Ok This will restore your old SSP settings, you then need to Change the associations and test.. After testing you can change the default SSP and remove the SSP that is not longer in use.. Cheers, -Ivan Ivan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.

Hi Ivan: Thank you very much for your suggestion - its a good one! There is some reluctance in our team to revert back to the old SSP databases, now that the new SSP is functional (except for the historical data). I'll rattle the chains and see if they want to try this approach and report back. I guess there are no tools to actually port this data between different SSP's, which is really frustrating. Hope to hear from others who may have tried something for this? I poked around the databases themselves but don't feel that I should do any select/insert directly into the databases. For others who may wander on this thread, for Item 3 in my list above, I was able to cobble together some code from http://timgoodgion.wordpress.com/sharepoint-projects/no-way-to-export-keywords-and-best-bets/ to write a simple utility to export and import. Of course, this only works if its done to backup the keywords *before* the SSP goes corrupt or like in our case, gets stuck in "unprovisioning" mode.
