Migrating a site to a subsite
I would like to know how to migrate a site to a subsite. I have found several articles on migrating content from one server to another but what if I wish to change the hierarchy level from a site to a subsite? What is the means/method to accomplish this? Thanks.

Simply use "Site Actions / Manager Content and Structure". In the dropdown menu for the site on Site Content and Structure page, simply select "Move". Using this, you can essentially "pluck" the site and move it to the sub site location you wish it to be. I trust that answers your question... Thanks C http://www.cjvandyk.com/blog

So does that mean I can migrate a site collection from one server to another by using stsadm -backup and stsadm -restore and then simply use the Move operation to move the entire Site Collection to another area in the hierarchy that readily or does the method you described not apply to Site Collections? Thanks.

Hi, Move action in “Manage content and structure” only works for the situation that both the source and target sites are within the same site collection. Stsadm backup and restore can be used to move site collection, web application or the entire farm. Additionally, stsadm export and import operations are used to backup and restore site collections and sites. These operations are limited to site collections and sites only. Here is a reference may help you clear that up. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointserver/HA101317231033.aspx http://blogs.msdn.com/b/gayanpeiris/archive/2008/03/16/back-up-and-restore-by-using-stsadm.aspx Thanks & Regards. Simply use "Site Actions / Manager Content and Structure". Providing the publishing features are enabled. Regards, Aaron www.aaron-rendell.co.uk

Hi, Sorry for the delay in replying - I've only just recieved the alert e-mail. Chcek within: Central Admin > Application Management > Web App Features (I can't remember of the top of my head if there is something to do with publishing in here) For sure, check: Site Collection Features and site features (for both sites).Regards, Aaron www.aaron-rendell.co.uk
