Migrating WSS 3.0 to a new server.
We have a WSS installation that was installed by the former Sys Admin on the same server as our Exchange server. I would like to migrate it to its own server however I just wanted to see if there were any known issues for this. The plan right now is to backup the old sharepoint installation, install WSS 3.0 on the new server, and then restore it on the new server. My main concern is that the something might get messed having 2 WSS installations on the same domain. And my other concern is that it will be installed on a new server so all the URLs will have to get re-worked. Is there a simple easy way to do this or am I just going to have to do a lot of manual work?

You will have to first create the new WSS 3.0 environment. Move the Content DBs to the new environment then reconfigure the DNS to point to the new server. Yes there is a lot of work involved so plan out the migration and get other teams like the networking, DBA etc involved.Regards, Mahesh
