Migrating SSRS 2005 Enterprise to SSRS 2008 Standard - Report Server Errors
I am having issues with migrating a scaled-out enterprise SSRS 2005 report server, to a SSRS 2008 Standard configuration. Current Config: SQL Databases: W2K8R2/SQL Server 2008 Standard server (all dbs including reportserver/reportservertempdb) - db9 SSRS: W2K3/SQL Server 2005 Enterprise SSRS server (has report server on here) - db6 Shared data sources are being pulled from db9 New Config: SQL Databases: W2K8R2/SQL Server 2008 Standard server (dbs for report data) - db9 SSRS: W2K8R2/SQL Server 2005 Enterprise SSRS server (ncluding reportserver/reportservertempdb) - db11 Shared data sources are being pulled from db9 A few issues happen: 1. When I first restore the ReportServerDB (from DB9) onto DB11, and restore the encryption key, the scale out section has both DB6 and DB11 in the Scale Out section in report confg mgr 2. The only way I can remove DB6 from the scale out list, is to either delete the encryption key, or go to the Keys table in report server db and remove the DB6 entry from there. Why do both show up in the list, and is deleting the entry from the Keys table the right way to do this. 3. When I do step 2 and delete the bad entry in the Keys table, I can only reach the report server site by using localhost. a. Browsing to the http://db11/reports will always bring up a credentials box and even though I enter legit username/passwords, it does not let me see the page b. If I do browse to http://localhost/reports, I can see the reports. However shortly after I click on 1 or two reports, I get a 503 error: "HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable". Eventviewer gives this error message - Log Name: Application Source: .NET Runtime Date: 11/10/2010 5:21:17 PM Event ID: 1023 Description: .NET Runtime version 2.0.50727.4952 - Fatal Execution Engine Error (000007FEF970FA42) (80131506) Any ideas as to why I get the errors? Thanks in advance, Mazhar

Hi Mazhar, Your upgrade secnario is not supported, we can't upgrade SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Enterprise to SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services Standard, only for 2008 Enterpise. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393(v=SQL.100).aspx for more information about Version and Edition Upgrades of SQL Server 2008. In addition, SSRS 2008 Standard desn't support scale-out functionality. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645993.aspx for Features Supported by the Editions of SQL Server 2008. thanks, Jerry

Hi Jerry, Thanks for the reply. Since we are downgrading, we do not need the scale out feature, hence no Enterprise lic needed. The report server DB is currently stored on/served by a SQL 2008 Standard server, but is scaled out for the SQL 2005 Enterprise server. When we selected that report server db for use by SSRS 2005 Ent, did it somehow "mark" the database? Would the setup I mentioned still cause problems? Thanks, Mazhar
