Migrate only SharePoint addin from SQL 2008 R2 to SQL 2012
Hi all, 2 questions: Which steps in which order needs to be taken to switch from SQL 2008 R2 add-in for SharePoint 2010 to SQL 2012 add-in for SharePoint 2010 with SQL 2008 R2 as database server ? We would like to make this change to remove the Excel export limitation to export to only Excel 2003 in stead of Excel 2007-2010. Will this requirement be met ? Thank you in advance, R.

Thank you for your answer. I believe this post is about a new installation. I also am interested in a migration scenario and risks: FROM SharePoint 2010/MSRS2008R2 with SQL 2008 R2 as database server TO SharePoint 2010/MSRS2012 with SQL 2008 R2 as database server.

Hi Rochen, Thanks for your posting. In SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services, the Excel rendering extension natively renders a report to the format of Microsoft Excel 2007-2010, i.e. Office Open XML. There are many benefits to using the Excel 2007-2010 rendering extension, such as the maximum rows per worksheet are increased to 1048576 and the maximum columns per worksheet are increased to 16384. For more information, please see: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd255234.aspx For the Upgrade/Migration issue, it seems that the source and destination environments are as follows: Source environment: SQL Server 2008 R2 Database Engine, SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services, SharePoint 2010Source environment: SQL Server 2008 R2 Database Engine, SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services, SharePoint 2010 Is there a SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services installation that runs in SharePoint Integration mode already? If so, you can refer to the Migrate from Reporting Services versions prior to SQL Server 2012 section of the following article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh759331.aspx If not, it seems that you want to upgrade the SSRS 2008 R2 installation to SSRS 2012 only and keep the current version of SQL Server Database Engine. In this condition, you can follow the steps below: Install the SQL Server 2012 version of the Reporting Services add-in for SharePoint on each web front-end in the farm. You can install the add-in by using the SQL Server 2012 installation wizard or by downloading the add-in.Run SQL Server 2012 installation to upgrade SharePoint mode for each report server. The SQL Server installation wizard will install the Reporting Services Service and create a new Service application.
