Migrate from SMS2003 to SCCM 2007 SP1
Re-using site codes is a bad idea. An upgrade is the only way this will work without causing huge issuess.http://www.enhansoft.com/

In our infrastructure, we have SMS 2003 SP3 with site L01 installed on Windows Server2003 SP2 and is running properly. Now we have a new server and installed 64-bit Windows Server2008 SP1. I want to install SCCM 2007 SP1 on this new server while mainntaining site name L01 and its clients. Is there anyone who can help with a step-by-step procedure on how I can achieve this? If a step-by-step guide document is provided, so much the better. Regards.

The only way to do that is by running a backup/restore and an inplace upgrade after that. Why not do a side by side migration and create a new site on the Win2008 server? You should also consider installing ConfigMgr. SP2 instead of SP1.Kent Agerlund | My blogs: http://blog.coretech.dk/author/kea/ and http://scug.dk/ | Twitter @Agerlund | Linkedin: /kentagerlund

Only trial versions are free. You have to have a license to use ConfigMgr.Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

Now if I download it, how should I go about the migration from the old SMS2003 SP3 on Windows 2003 to the new computer with Windows 2008 x64 so that I maintain the site code and the clients?

Hello - yes, if you are opting for in place upgrade then you can keep the existing site code. but in your case you wanted go with os upgrade as well so better option could be side by side upgrade. In side by side upgrade you have to use new site codes.Anoop C Nair - This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees, and confers no rights. |Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. That can be done using ConfigMgr's backup and restore mechanism (basically: backup ConfigMgr using the built-in maintenance task http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb633229.aspx, flatten the server, install the new OS, keeping the same name and partittion layout etc), restore ConfigMgr.
