Migrate backend database to new SQL Server
A common question that comes to support is "How do I migrate my backend SQL Server database to a new SQL Server?". I just posted this wiki to help guide customers through these steps. That's a usefull article, thanks! Question: couldn't you perform the migration by using the Change option (from "Add/Remove programs" or "Programs and Features") instead of completely Uninstalling the software ? Recently I had to uninstall the software at a customer of mine because I had to replace the trial version with a licensed one. The following blog post from Thomas Vuylsteke explains how to successfully migrate when your database has already been upgraded to Update 1 (build 4.0.3531.2): http://setspn.blogspot.com/2010/11/recovering-or-installing-additional-fim.htmlRobin Gorris - Security Architect @ IS4U

Great question! Actually for the Synchronization Engine the Change option will not suffice. You do have to uninstall / reinstall the Synchronization Engine to obtain the installation prompt for SQL Server. The blog posting is for the FIM Service and FIM Portal. You can actually execute a change mode install on the FIM Service to point to a new SQL Server. Timothy P Macaulay, MCSD, MCSD.NET, MCAD, MCP
