Migrate Sharepoint 2007 DB to 64-bit Windows Application Error
Hi All, I am in the process of migrating my companies MOSS environment to 64bit. I am following the directions on the technet article here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd622865(office.12).aspx Phase 1 of the plan is to migrate the databases to their new server first. I have followed the given instructions, and all databases are on the new server (and deleted off the old) but something in Sharepoint is still pointing to the old SQL server. On the application servers, I am getting the following windows event every few seconds: Cannot connect to SQL Server. SOMSQL01\MOSSTEST not found. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below. [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. Central Admin also says that the SQL server is the old one. I know that it is actually using the new server because the old server has been switched off and all the sites are still functioning correctly. Central Admin also shows that the main database server is still the old one, but has the new one listed under Operations - Servers in Farm. Trying to remove the old server using the 'Remove Server' link under Operations - Servers in Farm simply reloads the page but the server is still there. This is frustrating me so much! Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, What is Event ID of “Can’t connect SQL Server”? SQL Server does not exist or access denied means that the login process to SQL Server failed. Which kind of authentication do you have, SQL Server authentication or Windows authentication? I suggest you should login through Windows authentication. SharePoint Server 2010 requires that its database server must be a 64-bit version of one of the following: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2008 with Service Pack 1 (SP1), or SQL Server 2005 with SP3. If your current Office SharePoint Server 2007 installation uses SQL Server 2000, you must upgrade to one of these versions before you can upgrade to SharePoint Server 2010. To more easily discover and address any issues in the migration and upgrade processes, we recommend that you do not combine the actions of migrating to 64-bit SQL Server with the process of upgrading to SharePoint Server 2010. You can combine the migration to 64-bit SQL Server with the overall process of migration to 64-bit hardware. If you are combining the migration to SQL Server 2005 SP3 or SQL Server 2008 on 64-bit hardware with an overall migration to a 64-bit environment, follow the guidance about how to migrate to a 64-bit environment earlier in this article. For more information about how to migrate all databases, see the article Move all databases (Office SharePoint Server 2007) on TechNet (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=159761). If you already have 64-bit hardware, but have to upgrade to SQL Server 2005 SP3 or SQL Server 2008, follow the guidance in the SQL Server documentation. Best regards, David HM
