Migrate Lotus Notes DB to Sharepoint: What percent required custom SP Template/Apps
I know that many people have gone through migrating Lotus Notes Databases/Applications onto Sharepoint. For those of you fortunate enought to experience this :-), What % of your migrated DB/Apps required custom Templates/Apps? The way things work is not just apple to apple. My current company is looking to migrate our LN DB/Apps to Sharepoint, and was just wondering what words of wisdom are out there. We have about 8,000 applications we need to whittle through (and hope many will not need to be migrated!) Thanks.

Hi pneezy, It is hardly to tell you the percent, because everyone keeps different applications. I suggest you to try this migration tool name CMT for SharePoint. It can be used to migrating Lotus Notes Applications to SharePoint and can quickly catalog your Lotus Notes applications and identify those that can be migrated. Best regards, Emir

I spent about 6 months doing this and it shouldn't be approached lightly. You really NEED a proper form of Business Analysis to be done rather than seeking general asnwers on a forum. My experiences taught me a few things you should ask: - What are the business drivers for moving the items? If there is legacy data, why does it need to be moved? is there a legal or compliance reason for moving non-live data into SharePoint? Workflow and customisation is also important. Lotus allows users to things that, on paper are fairly straightforwards in the product that do not translate well into SharePoint 2007. My common experience was around timer jobs and workflows. Do you need to preserve the metadata, especially the time stamps? The information that needs to be retained will indicate which third party tools you should be looking for. Don't go to the market for migration kit until everything has been clarified here. DO NOT assume the actual migration itself will be simple task. If each of those applications holds a high GB of data, you need to manage the expectation of the business owner carefully. What could take us weeks to migrate, some process owners assumed could be done within a weekend. In regards to your direct questions, about 1/3 of my applications needed developer work. All of them needed customised templates.Steven Andrews | SharePoint Professional | http://www.twitter.com/backpackerd00d | https://baron72.wordpress.com/
