Migrate Farm from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005
MOSS 2007: Hi, We have a small sharepoint farm in our company with an Application and a dtabase server running SQL Server 2000. We are planning to migrate the database to a different server running SQL 2005. I have gone through many forums and blogs and it has become very confusing. Some of them say, we have to run the Configuration wizard and to create a new server farm altogether. Some says, the SSPs have to be backed up and resotred differently. Has anybody faced the same situation and moved the databases (contnent, configuration, SSP) from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 this way? Are these steps documented anywhere in MSDN or any other site? Thanks, Nayana

Hi Nayana, There is a very good Technet article you can follow - make sure you follow the section "To move all databases to a database server that has a different name" there. Note there is a very confusing line "“The new database server must use the same version of Windows Server and SQL Server as the old database server”"in this article (NOT sure why)- just ignore that. I works fine otherwise - I myself tested this :-). Hope this helps! BlueSky2010
