Microsoft SCCM
I have built an enviroment based on virtual machines (Citrix XenApp6, Windows 2008 R2) hosted on Citrix XenServer 5.6 I am looking for clarification if Microsoft SCCM 2007 R2 can be used to auto-deploy virtual machines hosted on the Citrix XenServer hypervisor. Specifically; · Is SCCM 2007 R2 supported for use in this scenario · Is there any requirement for SCVMM in this scenario Thanks

VMM isn't even Xen capabale (yet). What is your defintion of Auto-deploy? If you mean deploy the OS using OSD, then sure. OSD can deploy the OS to anything that Windows PE will run on. Will it natively create and provision guests in Xen? No. It won't even do that for Hyper-V or ESX. That's not the purpose of OSD itself. You need an orchestration layer (like Opalis or maybe VMM) to do that work. OSD deploys the OS, it has no "real" knowledge of the underlying hardware. Just like ConfigMgr, OSD is OS centric.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | Twitter @JasonSandys
