Microsoft Edge file download - File might have been moved or corrupt

Hi All,

Recently upgraded my machine to Windows 10 Pro for testing and have encountered an issue when downloading and attempting to open the downloaded files from within Microsoft Edge.

When ever a file gets downloaded (regardless of file type, website was downloaded from) and you click open, (or Run if its an .exe program) you receive the error that the file might have been moved or is corrupt.

The files do download to the "Downloads" folder however because we have Folder Redirection in place the actual path differs

All other browsers do not have this issue.

Windows 10 Pro on a Domain Setup with Folder Redirection in place to our File Server on all machines via Group Policy.

Hi,

Regarding current situation, please first check if the download can work when saved in local drive.

If still fail, please test the issue in clean boot mode to avoid 3rd part conflict.

If the issue doesnt appear, you can determine which one can be the cause by using dichotomy in MSconfig. Checking on half of Non-Microsoft service and restart, determining which half of the services cause the issue and repeating to check half of the problematic half services.

If we still fail to find the root cause of this issue, you may need to capture the network trace to check if there is any block or missing package during downloading process via Edge:

I can recreate this issue. In my test Domain a user without folder redirection can download a file in Edge and can run it from the dialogue that appears at the bottom of Edge when the downloads finishes. (there is no choice in Edge I can see to choose a save location so this is test I did to test a the local drive)

With a user with the Downloads redirected to a file server it does not work (same workstation), get message 'wordweb7.exe might have been moved or deleted - Retry, Cancel, View downloads' (WordWeb just an example, tried others). The funny thing I can click 'View downloads', that opens the DOWNLOADS pane in Edge, I can double click the file there and it opens. Also I can use file explorer to open Downloads location and run it, so the file has download correctly it would appear. I have reported this via Send feedback in Edge.

+1 this. We have folder redirection for the "Downloads" Folder/Library as well and just as you have stated you get an error if you try to open downloaded content from the dialogue that appears at the bottom of Edge when the download finishes, but click 'View Downloads' and then click the file in question from the 'Past Downloads' list, the file opens right up. If you try to click 'Open Folder' in the Downloads list dialogue, nothing happens. Definitely a bug, related to redirected "system library" folders.

I have tried now doing the clean boot with no success, as the other users have also reported this is defiantly an issue with Edge interacting with the Folder redirection policy on domain machines.
