Microsoft Edge

Finally got Windows 10 setup. Only took two days. Anyone know how to get Microsoft Edge to work? I try to open, and it flashes on the screen for a couple seconds, and disappears.

How is this suppose to be easier???

Edge is supposed to just 'work'. Make sure you Windows updates are up to date, Settings > Update & security > Check for updates.

If that is up to date and still no Edge, try a  Resource Checker, open a administrator command points (right click start \ windows button, select Command Prompt (Admin)) and enter

sfc /SCANNOW

That does take time to complete, perhaps 30 mins or so. If does check Edge I have used it to fix Edge in the past.

You need to refine your symptom description so we can tell what "disappears" implies.  E.g. sometimes it really means that the window is off-screen, so then all you need to do is bring it back into view.  E.g. Alt-Space, M, CursorRight, etc.

If the task is closing prematurely I suggest finding out if the same thing is happening with IE.   Run... (e.g. press Win-R and enter:)

    iexplore.exe -nohome -extoff

The objective of that command is just to open the window and have it stay open.  If you want to try to do something with it you will need to use the Stop command to get out of the No Home state.  E.g. press Alt-V p.

The minute you sign in with a Microsoft account to use Cortana the issue arises.
If you login using a local account then edge works as expected, however if you sign in using a non local account then MS edge opens and then closes immediately.

Fix: sign in using a local account

Setting>Accounts>Your Account

On the flip side Cortana no longer works!

I am still looking for a real solution...

UPDATE:

Pressing F1 key opens help and defaults to using MS Edge
The browser does not close immediately and works as expected.
Its a hack at the moment, I am still looking into it.

UPDATE 2:
Try this, press WIN key and type "maps"
Allow location when it asks and see if this fixes it for you.

It is now working as expected for me!

Thanks for reminding me that I had this turned off while I was using a VM.  So, Speech Recognition thinks my Surface 2 Pro's microphone is not supportable but Cortana can understand me--provided I stop acknowledging I live in Canada.  This is not great progress.  Maps knows where I live though.   <eg>

OTOH I wasn't having a problem with Edge.  Well, actually one thing.  Is Fullscreen not supposed to be available in Edge?  That seems bizarrely retro but probably in keeping with the W10 UX overall theme--retro.

I had the same problem and I still not sure what happened but it's working now and hope it stays that way. I Right clicked Start then go to Task Manager and double click edge and when I did edge stayed opened. Then closed everything and used desktop icon and it worked. ??? I ran clean instillation before that, clean catch and system default and had no luck.

I too am having the same problem.  After a few times edge opens then when I click on the edge icon the browser screen will open for a few seconds and then disappear.  If I go and restart the computer then same thing will repeat.  I think there is a glitch in the browser.

fwiw, on the first day after upgrade, i had Edge opened in Desktop1, swithced to Desktop2 (did some work and stuff), went back to Desktop1, and voila! Edge disappeared.

have to rerun Edge again to make it appear.
