Microsoft EMET v4.0 Installation Problem

I have installed Microsoft EMET v4 on multiple Windows 7 32-bit machines with SP1, and the one thing that has left me baffled is the busy in the background icon (mouse pointer with a spinning circle) that displays immediately after closing the installation dialog. It seems that EMET_Agent.exe keeps attempting to start following the install, however it also continuously terminates, and then finally generates the following error:

- Microsoft Visial C++ Runtime Library

                                -Runtime Error

                                -Program C:\Program Files\EMET 4.0\EMET_Agent.exe

                                -R6016

-not enough space for thread data

Even after closing this error message the cycle continues.

While this cycle is occuring it is possible to manually start EMET_Agent.exe successfully, but the original instance will continue the same start/terminate cycle.

The only way to get this cycle to stop, is by logging off and logging back on, or just restarting the machine. At that point EMET runs as expected.

I have been able to rule out 3rd party applications by running in a basic start mode, that only runs a handful of services, allowing me to still install EMET. This problem still occurs, so that suggests at least it is not a 3rd party issue.

This issue doesn't seem to be documented anywhere online, but I do suspect others have run into it. Thoughts? Thanks.

I too ran into this problem (on Win 7 SP1, 32-bit) and afterwards the tray icon gave an error message that admin privileges were required to start the GUI; it was still possible to run the GUI as admin from the start menu though.

I received the same error with the tray icon, no explanation that I have seen thus far.

However, I did find that running a silent EMET install with 'msiexec.exe /i "EMET Setup.msi" /qn /norestart' at least removes the first problem of hanging after the installation. In this scenario the installation completes and does not try to start EMET_Agent.exe until after a logout/login or a restart of the system.
