Microsoft Active Directory LDS Service Database backup

I have windows 2008 64 bit server with AD LDS instance that i need to backup using dpm. What is the best way to go a backup it up? should i choose instance install directory or system state? Not sure if system state even included AD LDS database.

Using DPM 2007 32 bit.

Hey Sa,

Protecting an AD LDS is a bit different as protecting AD DS.

You're right that you need to protect the instance install directory which is by default %program files%\Microsoft ADAM\instance_name\data

Afterwards, if you want to recover, stop the AD LDS instance service, restore the files to the original location and start the service again.

Ofcourse, when the hardware went dead, you will first need to rebuild the server, install the role etc... So it might be a good idea to include BMR of that server or protect the entire VM if it is virtual

Just my 2 cents

Hello Mike,

we tried your suggestion, but did not succeed: if we backup the directory  ...\Microsoft ADAM\instance_name\data with DPM, only the files

- edb.chk

- edbresxxx.jrs

- temp.edb

are saved by DPM.

The files adamntds.dit and the edbxxx.log files are missing. Any ideas what is going wrong?

(both 64-bit)

I know this is an old thread, but here we are in 2015, and I am having the exact same problem as Ina - running DPM 2012 R2 and backing up 2008 R2 server with AD LDS (ADAM).
