Microsoft Account Requires Attention - Error 0x80860006

Windows 10 became very unstable, immediately rebooting after I entered my credentials and it would hang and reboot. After several reboots, I finally got logged in and now I keep getting the notification "Insider Build settings need attention". Clicking on that takes me to the Settings app.

In the Settings app, under "Get Insider builds", it says "Your Microsoft Account requires attention to get Insider builds" and there is a "Fix Me" button.

  • Clicking on the "Fix Me" button, I get a pop-up that says:
  • Sorry! Something went wrong...
  • We're not quite sure what it is. To look into it further check the Insider Hub for alerts or browse the Answer Forums.
  • This error code might be useful: 0x80860006

Clicking on "Insider Hub" brings up the "Please sign in and connect". Clicking on "Register here" shows I'm already registered.

I went to the Answer forums and others have had the same issue.  There is a fix if you are not on a Domain Account but the moderator suggested posting here for Domain accounts.  Anyone have suggestions on how to fix this issue?

Same issue over here. It seems that the connection with the Microsoft Account got lost and I'm not able to connect. This happens system wide (eg. Store, Setttings app (issue described above), ...)

+1.  Happens in both the profile I use for work and the Insider profile.  DOA here.

To fix the issue:

1. Go to settings

2. Accounts.

3. Remove your Microsoft Account.

4. Once removed, simply add it back and it will work fine this time.

I hope this helps.

I tried this - removing my Microsoft account - and now it won't add it back. I put in my user name and password and it never adds the account. This just started with build 10168. This build is also a HUGE memory hog.

Help!

Looks off topic in Windows 10 Phone preview?

Besides that I finally got my domain joined 10158 VM based machine now to use the Microsoft account again (I do not wish to have the Microsoft account take over fully on a domain machine).

Symptoms: Clicking Fix me and Sign in to Microsoft account brought up a short grey popup screen which closed without being able to sign in. Similar thing happened as I attempted the store.

Opened browser and navigated to this forum. Logged in to MS account successfully there, logged off, logged in again, selecting keep me signed in. Tried store again, could logon now. Tried Advanced settings in WU again, worked as well now by giving me the logon screen for the Microsoft account.

Best greetings from Germany
Olaf
