Message ID 8204 with no server name

I have an issue that has happened a few times now where the Package Transfer Manager raises a status message ID 8204 which indicates a package is being sent to a distribution point and how far along it is.  Normally, this message include the package ID, the distribution point name, and the percentage complete.  In my case, it has recorded this a few times but did not record a server name.

The result, when you view status of the package, it has says it's distributing to many distribution points even though it was successful to them.  It through me off and I thought the package got updated somehow but that is not the case.  Then, i thought is never really distributed to I refreshed.  Turns out, since the record doesn't have a server the message appears when checking status for ALL distribution points.

For now, I can clear the "bad' status by validating the package on all the distribution points.  Since the content IS actually there, the last status message changes to a success.

I have opened a case with premier support and am providing them quite a bit of data to isolate when and why this bad status gets recorded.  I think it's a bug at this point.

Has anyone else seen this happen where you have a package you know is successful to a distribution point and then you check back and it changes to "In Progress" for no reason?

Caught it in the log file finally.

Here is what a STATMSG 8204 line in pkgxfermgr.log should look like.

STATMSG: ID=8204 SEV=I LEV=M SOURCE="SMS Server" COMP="SMS_PACKAGE_TRANSFER_MANAGER" SYS=SITESERVER.company.com SITE=P01 PID=2232 TID=7948 GMTDATE=Fri Sep 14 03:06:52.786 2012 ISTR0="P0100083" ISTR1="DIST.COMPANY.COM" ISTR2="94" ISTR3="" ISTR4="" ISTR5="" ISTR6="" ISTR7="" ISTR8="" ISTR9="" NUMATTRS=3 AID0=400 AVAL0="P0100083" AID1=410 AVAL1="1" AID2=404 AVAL2="["DISPLAY=\\DIST.COMPANY.COM\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=P01"]\\DIST.COMPANY.COM\" SMS_PACKAGE_TRANSFER_MANAGER 9/13/2012 10:06:52 PM 7948 (0x1F0C)

Here is a BAD one.

STATMSG: ID=8204 SEV=I LEV=M SOURCE="SMS Server" COMP="SMS_PACKAGE_TRANSFER_MANAGER" SYS=SITESERVER.company.com SITE=P01 PID=2232 TID=6388 GMTDATE=Fri Sep 14 03:19:51.362 2012 ISTR0="P010004F" ISTR1="" ISTR2="80" ISTR3="" ISTR4="" ISTR5="" ISTR6="" ISTR7="" ISTR8="" ISTR9="" NUMATTRS=3 AID0=400 AVAL0="P010004F" AID1=410 AVAL1="2" AID2=404 AVAL2="" SMS_PACKAGE_TRANSFER_MANAGER 9/13/2012 10:19:51 PM 6388 (0x18F4)

The result is the console went from showing package P010004F as "In Progress" to one distribution point, to "In Progress" to ALL distribution points when checking content status.

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) as they can work with you to solve this problem.
