Make a global virtual directory
Hi Guys. This is probably a very simple thing to do but I can't get it working properly. I've had a quick search through the forums but couldn't find what I was looking for. I am trying to make a new Virtual Path to a folder on the local hard drive e.g. C:/Test. I can set this up through iis 6 no problem. (I have MOSS 2007 with iis 6 on Server 2003) This works from the top levl site collection e.g. http://moss/_test/image.bmp will display the image located in the folder. However, I need to be able to access the folder from subsites e.g. http://moss/sub1/_test/image.bmp This results in a 404 file not found. Could someone tell me how to make this folder available globally. I've tried setting up a Managed Path explicit inclusion through Central administration but it still doesn't work. Cheers, Paul

Ivan, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, thats not the easiest option for us. We already have a lot of pages referencing /_test We can't modify these pages. Is there a way we can make /_test global as above? Would it help if the content was in the VirtualDirectory for the web application?

Can anyone out there help with this? We need to make a folder inside a SharePoint web app virtual directory global so it can be accessed from both http://moss/_test/image.bmp and http://moss/sub1/_test/image.bmp (and any other subsite). We can't move the content into the layouts folder in the 12 hive since we already have pages referencing our /_test virtual path. We dont have authorization to edit these pages. Thanks, Paul

Is there a programmatic way to do this? ...creating a virtual directory under web site "_layouts" in IIS using the SP OM (so that the virtual directory is created on all WFEs in the farm)?
