Maintenance Mode Issue
Hi, I've grief having servers put in MM so that no alerts are generated for known and planned activities. My fellow Windows administrators put servers into MM using the Web Console. They are part of SCOM Administrator group. On logging to web console, they do not see Discovered Inventory in Monitoring Pane, which I can see in the Operations Console. Why ? Nevertheless, they go to Monitoring->Windows Computer, Select the server and Start MM. MM icon appears within few seconds. When they go to Monitoring -> Operations Manager -> Agent -> Agent Health State. Agent State shows under MM, however the Agent Heath State from Health Service Watcher still shows as Heathy. Why ? As a result they get alerts such as Failed to Connect if the server is rebooted. Can somebody tell me the best way to put servers into MM. Window Administrators would hate to put the same server into MM at different places in the Monitoring pane. I've been playing with the Windows Computers State View in the Monitoring pane recently. Can somebody let me know what does the Properties Window look like in standard SCOMenvironment. Monitoring -> Windows Computer -> Right Click -> Properties. Thanks, HarryThanks, Harry :-)

1- For MM, I would recommend adding the omputer Object >> from Windows Computers state view (this object and all contained objects) witch will add the Health Service Watcher into MM as well.. , otherwise you can add a specific database / logical disk / Server Role or any specific object... 2- Standard Windows Computers state view: Show data related to: Windows Computer Show data contained in specified group: All Select condition: none (Show all state) Hope this helps!! Hi Mazen Thanks for replying. 1. Yes, we put the computer object and all contained objects when starting the MM, however the Health Service Watcher doesnot enter MM, only the Agent Health State enters MM. Not sure why? 2. For my environment, Show data related to: Windows Computer Show data contained in specified group: All Windows Computer. I do not see an All when I click to choose. Select condition: none (Show all state) Thanks, HarryThanks, Harry :-)

For the Windows COmputer state view: Just click Clear button next to the group selection list, then it will be shown as All.. To check if your health service watchers are in MM after you put the Windows Computer go to Monitoring >> Discovered Inventory >> change target type to Health Service Watcher.. then you should see the MM sign on the computer you have put in the MM Hope this helps.. Would like to see an answer to this as well. Maintenance Mode via the Operations Console works fine. As Harry reiterated, the issue is with the Web Console putting a server/computer into Maintenance Mode. The Web Console does not put the Health Service Watcher into Maintenance Mode at all. This causes unexpected "server down" alerts when an admin expects the server to be in MM. Any solutions?
