Mail merge in SSRS reg,.
Hi ! I did see the mail merge layout designing. But i need to know the following, whether is it possible to send the mail directly to the mail id (From Data base) being in the report ? As in subscription we need to add the users name and id to which we need to send the mail id, which may be hard coded. But in my case if i wanna send the payment reminder letter to the customers, i 'll design a report holding informations and wanna send to the customer mail id taken from the db.. is that possible in SSRS ? How ? Thanks ! RadhaI

Hi, I guess the solution you are looking for can be achieved using SSRS data driven subscription. Please have a look at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms169673(v=SQL.100).aspx for details. Important : kindly note this feature is available only on enterprise edition. secondly please ensure that your reports does not use the built in field =User!UserID in the report. Hope this helps. Hi Bilal Hani ! Yes Thanks for your reply... The link helps how to do a data driven.. i think we need to some work around in order to link the mail with corresponding mail ids taken from the query given in Data Driven subscription. For the subscription shouldn't be mailed to a wrong id . I have started checking the Data Driven subscription now. But if i could get the confirmation that its possible to match the mail with the correct mail id given in the subscription i'll be happy.. If any have done it, please share urs. Will get back here .. Hi, The dataset that you prepare to map the fields for data driven subscription has to have the email IDs. Therefore you would not need to do any linking in the report. Supposing you need to deliver a report to 10 different customers, each customer email address with the relevant report name, delivery type, date/time etc. should have a record in the datasource you prepare. Since you already have email IDs in a kind of datasource, I suggest you to use the same datasource and modify adding new fields required by SSRS data driven subscription (such as reportname, file type etc.) and then map them in SSRS DDSubscription. Thts really helpful to start with ... Kindly let me know how to get the option for method of delivery as 'Report Server File Share' as this particular option is not appearing in the drop down box. I did finished creating a data driven subscription. but after execution its status says " Processing: 0 processed of 3 total; 3 errors. " Thanks !--------------------------- Radhai Krish | Golden Age is no more far | --------------------------

Once you start settting up a data driven subscription, the first screen lets you select how recipients are notified. Are you meaning to say this screen does not provide the option to select the file share. In fact the option is named as 'Windows File Share'. Please have a look at the screenshot displaying the options available here Please feel free to discuss if you have any further questions. O Oh Sorry i thought there would be a separate option as 'Report Server File Share' Fine .. Thanks Bilal. i did finish the configuration of data driven subscription. But i dint get any report to be generated in tht particular shared folder. Should i need to check any settings in it again? Also the status says 0 processed of 3 total, 0 errors. May i know where should i see the error details? THanks !--------------------------- Radhai Krish | Golden Age is no more far | --------------------------

Yes found! In that Log file i got the error as "Error writing file FileName.xls to path \\192.168.42.176\MailMerge_TestReports" When i checked the config, i have given a proper name in the place of Field Name i.e without any space. For the value of File Extension i specified 'True' For the value of Name i have given SystemDomain\UserName (of mine) --- is this correct? For the Value of password i gave the password for the above user name. Was those correct? please advice... --------------------------- Radhai Krish | Golden Age is no more far | --------------------------

The options you've set looks correct. Please ensure the username you set has rights to the datasources and the windows file share path. If not please grant the required rights to the user. Based on the error "Error writing file FileName.xls to path \\192.168.42.176\MailMerge_TestReports", though not confirmed, it appears like a permission/security issue. Please check.
