MUI messing up master pages

Hi!

While setting up a Sharepoint Online 2013 Intranet, I encountered a funny issue:

I set up MUI / alternate language for our Finnish users, which worked just fine. Then I tailored a master page and made it the whole Intranet's master page. I got the "Literal content (' ') is not allowed within a System.Web.UI.UpdatePanelTriggerCollection" problem, which was solved. After that, the Masterpage worked fine when logged in as admin (default language). But when I log in as a Finnish user, I get the same error "Literal content.....".

I've tried clearing cache, different browsers etc. without any luck. Resetting to the old master page makes the Finnish login succeed, but switching back to the new master page the problem returns; successful logins for default language users, error messages for the alternate language users.

Do alternate languages get some strange different master page when setting a new master page for the default language?

I have also checked the other master pages; no one contains the " " that causes the error message, so I have no idea what's going on.
