MTFTP default???
I am trying to setup OSD at my site. I am having an issue when trying to network boot a client. When doing a Network boot the client picks up DHCP information correctly and then displays "MTFTP....." and the dots continue on and on for quite some time(about 15 min), then the PC will boot into Windows PE(This issue is most likely not related but I will throw it out there just in case: After windows PE starts up it still craps out because I am trying to use a dell optiplex 755)Running windows PE command line I can see the PC does not pick up an IP, but I can manually get an IP by typing in ipconfig(possible solution: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/configmgrosd/thread/9e78335b-607a-41c0-8dbb-e3f07c75df3e/). Here are some other settings possibly realting to the MTFTP?Within Site Management->Site->Site Settings->Site Systems->ConfigMgr Distribution Point I have the box for multicast unchecked.Within Site Management->Computer Management->OSD deployment->Operating System Images-> under my target image's distribution settings I have "allow this package to be transferred via multicast" unchecked.Does anyone know why my client is defaulting to a mtftp connection instead of a tftp connection? Does anyone know where I can disable this mtftp connection?I have searched the forums for mtftp and no threads turn up.Is this a setting controlled by network equipment?Thank you in advance.

No ideas out there?current update: SCCM OSD is now working at my site. The only PROBLEM is that I still have to wait 10/15 minutes for the MTFTP timeout before I can begin to receive an OS. If nobody knows the answer can someone at least provide some guidance for troubleshooting. I plan to tear into this with my Network Administrator next week, but I want to make sure that all SCCM bases are covered. Any ideas why my connection is not defaulting to TFTP?When is MTFTP chosen over TFTP?Just for visual illustration purposes:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5zSPilQ_LM#t=0m9sAt the 9s/10s mark right after the DHCP information is received, right above where it says "Downloaded WDSNBP" is where I get mtftp....Any ideas on specific log files I could dig into? Thanks in advance.

Have you checked that "Multicast" isn't enabled for your "Boot Images".... ??Site Management->Computer Management-> Operating System Deployment -> Boot Images

Thanks for the response.I just double checked and multicast is not enable for either of my boot images x64 or x86.

Then I, unfortunally, don't have any other ideas.I haven't enabled "MultiCast" in my enviroment yet.I hope that you'll find a solution to this.Best regards

Thanks sveske.1/28/10 Update. Problem is still occurring, BUT this may not be a server/site setting. After making a base image and applying 2 different driver WMI query dependent packages to a new task sequence I booted up a Dell GX620 and installed the image with no problems and NO MTFTP PHASE. After picking up an IP the PC does NOT go through the mtfp phase and jumps directly into WINPE. I am going to continue testing with other models. I checked in the BIOS and did not find any obvious settings as to why the Dell GX755 is defaulting to mtftp.... Does this new model specific fact shed any light to anyone out there as to what the problem is? I plant to contact Dell as well. Thanks everyone.

HiI think I have a GX620 and a GX755 at work. Let me try to look into it on monday to see if I get the same results.

2/8/10 update I believe I have narrowed the mtftp default issue down to a switch setting. I am able to OSD deploy with a GX620, GX755, GX760 with no problems from a different switch. Once the solution is found I will update this thread.

Have you figured out what is causing your issue at all? I am having the same problem in my environment... Currently working with 4 models, 2 work fine (WinPE boots right away), 1 will boot after the MTFTP does it's thing (about 5-10 mins like you described)
and 1 won't boot into WinPE even after i wait it out.
I haven't tried a different switch yet, but i will do that to verify
Anyone else out there seen this issue??? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

The answer is also on my blog post at
http://scug.be/blogs/sccm/archive/2011/01/13/configmgr-2007-pxe-boot-amp-mtftp-defaulting-and-make-you-wait-for-10-15-minutes.aspx
The problem is related to Option 43 being defined on your DHCP scope , either for CISCO or APC equipment .Remove option 43 or asign it specificly to reservations only and it will work .
Hope it Helps ,
