MS files(word, excel, power point and etc) are not displayed on my MOSS 2007 Server
Hi All, Recently i have set-up my development MOSS-2007 Server. The development server has following OS and other specifications: Operating System: Windows Server 2008 SP1 Enterprise x64-bit MOSS Software: MOSS 2007 64-Bit with SP2 SQL Server: MS SQL 2008 STD 64 bit and Dot net frame work 3.5 with SP1. All the softwares are installed on the same machine. I have successfully installed my MOSS and configured as per MS deployment Guide. The problem is "MS file type are not displaying, i mean the word Excel and Power Point files types are not showing after uploading in to document library of my Team Sites. It'd default file type is showing, i mean as like unknown file type for all documents. I too configured PDF Index for PDF file as per Adobe recommendations. Everything looks fine. In SSP>Search>File types> I can see all the files entry as well same image logo are available on the Template folder of 12 directory. In the file type its showing just common image for all MS files as well as PDF file. the property of the filed image is pointing to http://teams.test.com/_layouts/images/icgen.gif . I am just wondering how all the files are pointing to this icgen.gif alone-instead of /images/icdoc.gif (word files). The PDF files LOGO also still in problem. Also i found that, if i am try to create a word document on the document library, the following error Pop-up is showing stating that" New Document' requires a Windows SharePoint Services-Compatible application and Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater. To add a document to this document library, click the 'Upload Document' button. I am hitting my head on the monitor for around a week to figure out the PDF file (image log) as well as this MS files type. I am clue less how to resolve this error. Hope you got my Point and requirement. Thanks for reading my post. If anybody handled/faced such a problem, please share. Any help highly appreciated. As this is a new install..rerun the sharepoint configuration wizard and yes, I agree there seems some issue with DOCICON.xml where you can map the extension wiith the ICON.I LOVE MS..... Thanks and Regards, Kshitiz (Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.)

I am sorry; i am late to share my solution. I also thought DOCICON.XML is causing the issue. To resolve this issue the following solution has been applied. 1. With help of MOSS software CD, i have re-run the Installation wizard but it was not resolved my problem. 2. The DOCICON.XML file copied from well working server and replaced in the problem server- But same error. 3. Finally, i did complete OS update (Security and Cumulative update) for Windows Server 2008. Server restarted. Now the problem has been resolved successfully. I am able to view the index file types such PDF, WORD, EXCEL. I am not sure what caused this problem. Any way thanks for your help and support. Keep up your "GOODWORK". Cheers, Suresh G Visual Source Safe 2005
