I am getting below error message as soon as i execute setup.

Firstly, what SQL Server edition are you installing? As mentioned in this article, SQL Server 2012 Standard edition, SQL Server 2012 Developer edition and SQL Server 2012 Express edition are supported on Windows 8, please ensure that your SQL Server meets the edition requirement.

Secondly, there are some known issues when installing SQL Server 2012 on Windows 8, we recommend that you enable the .NET 3.5 Framework before you install SQL Server 2012 on Windows 8. For more details, please review this KB article.

Thirdly, right click the SQL Server setup file and choose Properties, make sure that it is not configured with other compatibility mode in the Compatibility tab. Also ensure that you choose Run as Administrator to start SQL Server installation.

The message is clear you need to check both your OS and its Service pack. Can you please let us know what is OS version and edition
