MP cluster setup guide
Hi all, I have a virtual testing environment (Hyper-V) consisting of a number of Server 2008 R2 x64 machines. A number of servers host SCCM and the management point is hosted on a separate server. However, I want to host the MP on a cluster. A clean cluster is already in place, but I have no idea whatsoever on how to approach this. I assumed there are whitepapers or guides on how to configure a clustered MP, but I can't seem to find any. Not on this forum, nor google. So I'm basically looking for a howto and I'm wondering if anyone could help me. Thanks a lot! JeroenCheck out my blog sysmgmt.wordpress.com

Hello - Have you seen these? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680513.aspx and http://blogs.msdn.com/b/shitanshu/archive/2008/05/13/how-to-setup-wsus-sup-role-in-nlb-in-sccm.aspx Anoop C Nair - This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees, and confers no rights. |Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi both, Thanks for the links! I'm going to spend some time on investigating where I went wrong. I deployed a MP to the cluster, but it gets installed on only 1 of the nodes... interesting.. I'll keep this post up to date! RegardsCheck out my blog sysmgmt.wordpress.com

Hi, I'm currently going through http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb633031.aspx, but I have a question about the following part: .. Install the Site System Role on NLB Cluster Members After you have configured the NLB cluster, you must install the Configuration Manager site system role on each computer (host) in the NLB cluster. Ensure that the site system roles are installed and functioning correctly before you continue. .. At this moment, my site server is in place and my cluster (2 nodes) is up and running. Since I want to load balance my MP, should I read this part as: 1) Install MP on both hosts individually (I thought this wasn't supported?) 2) Install MP to the virtual cluster name (this went wrong before, got installed on 1 MP only) 3) Install the site system 'role' without defining any specific roles' Say 3) is the correct option, then I've added both physical hosts as a site system, then, to what should I deploy the MP role? The hosts or the cluster name? The article describes how to prepare site systems for NLB, I would like to see how it continues from here. Thanks! Jeroen Check out my blog sysmgmt.wordpress.com

Hello - I think, you must go with first option. See, http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/configmgrsetup/thread/2563821b-47a5-411f-9ff1-cf4da84a2dfc Wally's comments - The only exception to that is if you configure a NLB cluster of MPs, in which case you publish the virtual IP address of the NLB cluster as the default MP. However, I believe in that scenario, all MPs must be on the same subnet.Anoop C Nair - This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees, and confers no rights. |Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi An00p, Thanks for the comment/suggestion. All MP's are on the same subnet, hence this should be possible. I will give it a try :) Thanks a lot! Though, it's a HyperV environment, so I'll make some snapshots, just in case ;) RegardsCheck out my blog sysmgmt.wordpress.com

Hi again. I've installed MP's on both site systems (feels so weird), but it made sense afterall. However, I am led to: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb735879.aspx and I'm running into issues on my 2008 server: The part on... To configure Kerberos authentication for management points configured in a load balancing cluster ... mentions configuring the IIS App pool "CCM Windows Auth Server Framework Pool" to use the previously created NLB service account. However, I am seeing this app pool on one of my MP's. Is this by design or a faulty config? I followed the exact steps in the article. Any idea how to approach this? Thanks! Update: I noticed this above mentioned server was still referring to the old sccm site. Fixed this and it seems to be correcting itself now Check out my blog sysmgmt.wordpress.co
