MOSS and Lists - edit dispform.aspx
In SP2003, you were able to edit the List file - dispform.aspx -with Frontpage. In MOSS, I can not see how to edit the content of that file with SDesigner. I want to make a small change so Idon't want to have to create a dispform2.aspx etc... Is there any way to convert and edit this page. Thanks.

solution - delete the default ListFormWebPart off the DispForm.aspx page then adda "custom list form" in SPDesigner - insert > sharepoint controls > custom list you can edit this version

Does anybody know why I am getting the following error after I edit dispform.aspxNo item exists at https://www.solgpsdev.gov.ab.ca/Pages/default.aspx?ID=2&Source=https://www.solgpsdev.gov.ab.ca/Lists/Test/AllItems.aspx.This error occurs when I am in the allitem.aspx page I mouse over the item in the list and the URL no longer has dispforms.aspx in it. Not sure if that is part of the problem, I have associated dispform.aspx with the correct list. But continue to get this error. I have tried editing dispform.aspx on existing lists and it has wrecked all my links in allitems.aspx and I have even tried editing dispform.aspx on a brand new test list, but no matter what I cannot seem to get my custom dispform.aspx page to come up. Is there a setting or something that has to be turned on? or is it some little step i'm missing, please help

Hi, This appears to be an annoying error...and even bug. Basically what is happening is that ur List needs to be associated with correct page. Its simple to do through SPDesigner where basically u tell SPDesigner the correct page to link. But as i and lots of other people have seen...this association does not seem to save in some cases...basically when u do the association and save...then look again...the association is again blank. Follow these steps- Right click on List in SP Designer- click on properties - click onsupporting files - browse to ur correct file where textbox is blank- save. How I got round it was that (as seen in another post by someone) when u go to the aspx page u are editing in SPDesigner - rather than deleting the existing control - make it hidden in its properties. The add ur new control and save. This way the association never seems to get broken.

Thanks for the quick reply and suggestion Ireland, greatly appreciated.I noticed the association was not saving properly before my first post, but I made sure it was properly saved before testing - and I still cannot get any item in allitems.aspx to open up in dispform.aspx, is this just a huge sharepoint glitch? When I mouse over a item in allitems.aspx should the URL not be pointing to Dispform.aspx Example on : /lists/test/DispForm.aspx?ID=280 This seems to be the default mouse over on a new list (association not broken)The mouse over i am getting when I associate the edited dispform.aspx file is lists/test/?ID=280Any ideas on why it's not placing the dispform.aspx in the file? Even though I have associated it and it seems to save properly?

sorry...dont know why this would happen if its saving properly...the experiences i have had so far is that it wasnt saving at all...so i had tocreate a new List and hide the original control on the dispform page in its webpart properties...and then add the new custom control to the dispform page. thats all ican tell ya...hopefully some MS person will put up areply on this bug as they must have heard about it by now...and come up with a reason and hopefully fix for it.

Hi Everyone,I had the same issue. Our dispfom got corrupted. We dont know the reason. But, somehow we have solved the issue. Here are the steps to be followed.1. Open the site in SharePoint designer 2007. Then Open the DispForm.aspx of the list and checkout it.2. Delete any existing webpart from the page. Then add ListFormWebPart on to the page. Insert->SharePoint Controls->List Form.3. Save it. Right click on the dispform.aspx in the explorer and create new from existing page.4. Make the new file as the new display form. Right click on the list->Properties->Supporting files. Then select newly created page in the first textbox.5. Now delete the old dipsform.aspx and rename the new one to DispForm.aspx.Please let me know if you still have problem.
