MOSS 2007 web id
We create project sites in sharepoint using stsadm backup and restore of our template site. In additon, each site collection has a seperate database. The problem we are having is that any new site collection we create use restore keeps the same web id. Is there a possibility to change the web id of site collections in SharePoint 2007.

Thanks Rohan...! We have a webtemplate . Any site created based on webtemplate restore keeps the same web id. Is there a possibility to change the web id of site collections in SharePoint 2007. Can you help me understand why the webid are restored? Any help would be appreciated

Hi, stsadm backup operation takes the exact dump of site collection just like the snapshot of the site collection. And while restore operation, it simply restores the snapshot as it is with all the content and IDs everywhere the same along with metadata. In stsadm export-import operation, system account re-creates all the data and content along with IDs; so metadata changes for site content (in other words, re-create the complete site/subsite with new IDs). So if you are only concerned about the site template and structure, and not really require the metadata, then I suggest to go with export-import rather than backup-restore. Hope this helps, :)Regards, Rohan http://sharepointadmin4u.wordpress.com
