MOSS 2007 uninstallation
Hello,After having had a problem with making the sharepoint 2007 server a DC, I demoted the DC. Now I plan to uninstall sharepoint and reinstall it - since my sites are not working right now. But, it seems there are some complexities with the uninstallation. Is there any guide for the uninstallation which will successfully uninstall it?love-n-peace,~shaan

Hi Shaan, this is from the note section from this link:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263202.aspx"If you uninstall Office SharePoint Server 2007 and then later install Office SharePoint Server 2007 on the same computer, the Setup program could fail when creating the configuration database causing the entire installation process to fail. You can prevent this failure by either deleting all the existing Office SharePoint Server 2007 databases on the computer or by creating a new configuration database. You can create a new configuration database by running the following command: psconfig -cmd configdb -create -database <uniquename> "Cheers, Daniel Bugday Web: SharePoint Forum Blog: Daniel Bugday's SharePoint Blog

Hi Daniel,Thanks!I understand that either all the MOSS databases should be deleted or a new configuration database should be created to prevent the failure during reinstallation. In case of deletion of the MOSS databases, should it be done before uninstallationor post uninstallation? In either cases, how is it to be done? My central admin site is not working currently.Could you suggest please.love-n-peace,~shaan

They should be deleted post uninstallation. You do with SQL Management Studio, logon to SQL server and delete the DB's.Cheers, Daniel Bugday Web: SharePoint Forum Blog: Daniel Bugday's SharePoint Blog

Hi Daniel,I tried to uninstall MOSS (trial version) from the Add Remove Programs. Something unexpected happened. After confirming the uninstallation request, the process took me to a Window "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup" Setup Progress..... The selected components are being configured. ProductStatus SQL Server Database ServicesConfiguring components It further gave an error: Microsoft SQL server 2005 setup: Setup has encountered an unexpected error while setting internal properties. The error is : Fatal error during installation. After clicking OK - the "Send Report - Dont Send" dialog got displayed. MOSS can still be seen in the Add Remove Programs.I do not have SQL Server installed separately. I had used the SQL Server 2005 Express which comes by default with MOSS.What can be the reason for this error? What can be the next logical step?love-n-peace,~shaan

Your blog post is about removing WID.1. The post is so short you could have copied it here.2. WID comes only with WSS 3.0 not MOSS 20073. He is asking about uninstalling MOSS 2007. At some stage he might want to uninstall SQL Server Express, but not yet. Please try to be a good forum citizen and don't force us to go to your blog for a couple of lines of code that in any way turn out ot be off-topic.

Hi shaan123,Apologies for my earlier post, should have read your query carefully. I would normally delete my Web Applications via-Central Administration first before performing an uninstall of MOSS 2007. Anyway, have a read of this MS supportarticle. It explains how to manually remove a SharePoint server.Regards,Harish

Hi Shaan, you probably installed MOSS using the Basic - Stand Alone option and therefor have SQL Express installed. You could try to uninstall MOSS again using add/remove programs, and then manually uninstall SQL Express. There's a KB that might help you uninstall SQL Express manually: (make sure it applies to you, reading the symptoms sections!)Error message when you uninstall SQL Server 2005 or install SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 1: "The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Setting Internal Properties. The error is: Fatal error during installation":http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919945Cheers, Daniel Bugday Web: SharePoint Forum Blog: Daniel Bugday's SharePoint Blog

Hi Daniel,Thanks once again! The problem has got resolved. I referred to the KB. The symptoms matched. I had converted my Sharepoint Server to a Domain controller. Later I had demoted the DC-due to this the SQL server user groups do not match the corresponding security IDs in the Windows registry. The mentioned solution works superb. I could uninstall MOSS 2007 successfully after that. Moreover, my re-installation was also successful. I didn't have to delete the databases or create a new one (any idea why?). Anyway, I was not able to find the SQL Management Studio. Is it not available with the SQL Server Express? Also, in case of a standalone option installation (you are right with your guess), while uninstalling MOSS 2007, does the SQL Server Express also get uninstalled?love-n-peace,~shaan
