MOSS 2007 remote sign in refused
I have a MOSS 2007 setup which was working fine for anyone that is on the LAN, however users trying to access the site remotely get "authoraisation refused" error, If I create the user direct within sharepoint they can connect remotely, but our users are configured in groups within AD any help appreciated.

For clarification, your users are logging into their work machines remotely (via RDP) and trying to hit the site from the browser of the RDP'd-into machine? Or are they trying to reach an 'internal' (ie an intranet site) site from their home browser through FBA using their network credentials? If it's the first scenario, and passthrough authentication is set up, that's one thing. If it's second scenario, you'll likely need to use different zones (say, Default and Internet), set up FBA, and different AAMs for each site. Along with any DNS changes necessary. Thanks, Scott

Hi Scott many thanks for your reply, I am new to MOSS 2007 and taking over this role with no documentation, The users are using the second scenario, ie: logging onto a SP intranet using RDP and windows credentials, this was working fine until Friday when all of a sudden the remote users cannot login, I have checked IIS which looks fine for remote connection, I have checked SP authorisation which looks fine, however when I go into SQL 2008 and try to login a sa I cannot gain access, I am thinking perhaps that the account is failed somehow and is now not allowing authorisation to the IIS server and then the the SP instance? any help at this stage is much appreciated Ray

MOSS can be a bit of a handful at first. Hopefully this is a small problem. More clarification: So when users are at work and at their pc, they are automatically pass-through authenticated to the intranet site using their network login. When they RDP in, using same login, their login fails. Is this the case? Can they see any page at all? Are they prompted for a login?

Hi Scott It seems that the site handshake credentials had changed from Kerberos to NTLM, I have now rectified this and all seems to be working fine, however many thanks for your help in forcing me to think for myself. regards Ray

Ha! How weird. Do other users have access to Central Administration/IIS? Did you arrive at the answer by luck or can you post a URL that gave you a clue as to the cause? Anyway, glad you figured it out. Scott
