MOSS 2007 on Windows Server 2008
Are there any differences installing MOSS 2007 on Windows Server 2008 compared to installing it on Windows Server 2003? Specifically, can I install MOSS 2007withoutSP1 on Windows Server 2008? Why would I want to? See: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3552111&SiteID=1

No, you can't install 'MOSS 2007 without SP1' on Windows Server 2008. There is a download of the "MOSS 2007 including SP1" product which is the one you need to install here 32 bit: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2E6E5A9C-EBF6-4F7F-8467-F4DE6BD6B831&displaylang=en 64 bit: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=3015FDE4-85F6-4CBC-812D-55701FBFB563&displaylang=en (The installation procedure is similar as for Windows Server 2003 - actually it is the same but specifying the pre-requisites is different)

I tried this on a new Windows 2008 web Server install with sp1. I get an error "This product requires Windows Server 2003 SP1.

That's probably because you tried to use the web server version for a single server installation. At least in pre-Windows Server 2008 OS's (I have no experience of trying the Web Server version of Windows 2008 because I assumed it would be the same) the Web Server version could only be used for the front-end. In other words you needed to have at least two servers, one running the front-end (which could be on Web Server) and the other running the db system.WSS FAQ sites: http://wssv2faq.mindsharp.com and http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com Total list of WSS 3.0 / MOSS 2007 Books (including foreign language) http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com/Lists/v3%20WSS%20FAQ/V%20Books.aspx

I installed Windows Server 2008 Standard. Then downloaded MOSS 2007 with SP1, Same error as in Web Server. I must be doing something wrong.. does Windows Server 2008 need to be at Service Pack 2?
