MOSS 2007 file access from Windows Vista w/ Office 2007 read only
Hello,We have a MOSS 2007 server (1 sharepoint site)and recently ran into an issue with a couple of new vista machines accessing files on it. To begin with whenever a file was opened from these machines they wouldonly open as read only (for the record the same files open correctly and could be editedfromxp).Aftera lot of trial and error I have somehow managed to get one of the machines to open the files correctly. However I have tried to retrace my steps with the other machine but still can't seem to get it to work.Obviouslyit seemsI have missed a step somewhere that fixes this but have no idea what it was. Ican however definately say I have carried out the following on both machines:Installed all updates via Windows update inc. office 2007.Installed Webfldrs-KB907306-ENU.Amended a registry setting to set web client basic auth from 1 to 2. (It saidthis was a security risk but am ok with that for now)If anyone has ran into this and can help my bad memory it will be greatly appreciated.ThanksJohn

It occurs to me that this issue may be more vista than sharepoint related.I logged the issue here as we only see the issue when using sharepoint. Does anyone know what the appropriate vista forum could be for this?ThanksJohn

Hello, There are several causes can lead to this issue, please try following workarounds: 1. Apply the hotfix described in following KB article: DFS failover does not occur when a client computer that is running Windows Vista tries to connect to a DFS root server that is unavailable, and you receive an error message: "System error 1214 has occurred":http://support.microsoft.com/?id=933860 2. check whether you are using URLScan, there may be some restrictive configuration on it. 3. If you have ISA applied, then please enable the persistent cookie. Regards, JerryXing-Bing Yu

Thanks for the reply.1. Attempting to install hotfix says "this update does not apply toyour system". 2. We are not using URLscan.3. We don't use an ISA server.John

I am facing the same issue - Vista SP1 + Word 2007 SP2 + WSS 3.0 + KB907306 Symptoms: All other Sharepoint Hotfixes fail the OS Check All Word docs I open are read-only. Trying to save the file in Word using a different name reports "Word did not save the document" I can rename/copy/move files using Explorer View I have scoured the 'net and I found nothing on this. Is there a solution for this? Is there any way to enable logging of OWSSUPP.DLL to give to you guys? Thanks, Steve
