MOSS 2007 email integration question (Not with Exchange)
Does anyone have any experience with integrating MOSS 2007 with the business/government edition of Gmail? Is there any documentation/blogs/anything out there? I've googled but not been able to find anything (yes, it's highly possible I'm just not using the right search string) really. MOSS 2007 Server 2003 R2 Enterprise SQL 2005 SP3 (separate) Currently we have exchange set up to handle everything but will be going to Gmail in the next few months (not my choice, not my decision). I have no idea how/if this is going to work with SharePoint. Any information or pointers to info would be much appreciated. Thanks! Veronica Harris

I did not as I didn't find that one. But that states it's for Server 2008. Would it work for Server 2003 do you think?

Hi Veronica Harris, I am afraid that I have no experience with implementing a MOSS 2007 and Gmail account integration solution in Windows Server 2003 environment, but I found a blog post from fmuntean which should work for Server 2003. http://fmuntean.wordpress.com/2008/10/26/how-to-configure-iis-smtp-server-to-forward-emails-using-a-gmail-account/ Hope it helps. Thanks Lily, I will have to check it out. Out of curiosity, do you think we will be able to take advantage of all the features that involve email or are there simply some things that require an Exchange server?

Veronica, you would be able to use GMail for outbound email functionality with out any issues. But to use Incoming email feature with GMail is not possible as your mail is never received on your servers. For incoming you can have a seperate email server implemented or use exchange to receive email on different emaild id's which would only be used by SharePoint's incming email functionality. I have blogged about this process here which is not exaclty what you need but maybe you can get a brief idea of what all is involved http://sharemypoint.in/2010/04/04/configuring-sharepoint-2010-document-libraries-with-exchange-server-2010-to-receive-mails-from-internalexternal-world/Sameer Dhoot My Blog : http://sharemypoint.in/ Did I answer your question?
