MOSS 2007 and Outlook 2007 Synchronization - Sync Issues Conflicts for emails with attachments
Hi there, Running Windows XP/SP3, Outlook 2007, MOSS 2007. I hope I got the right forum for this issue. We've set up an MOSS Discussion Board which will accept email format entries, but it does not have an email address. This board has been added to my local Outlook and a copy of the board resides in the standard "SharePoint Lists" store. In Outlook, when I move (drag/drop, copy/paste, or with code) an email to the Outlook Discussion board folder, once synchronization is finished, a copy of all emails with attachments ends up in a folder called Sync Issues/Conflicts which is attached to the SharePoint Lists store. Emails without attachments do not have this problem. With respect to the items in the Conflicts folder, none of the real items seem to be locked and all attachments have been transferred and are usable by both me (the one with the local SharePoint pst) and others. Careful review of the "conflicted" items and real items can find no difference between them other than the "Posted To:" property. What we're trying to figure out is whether or not we should be worrying about this apparent synchronization artifact? I mean, it would be easy to add some Outlook code to empty that folder when emails are moved to the Outlook SharePoint folder. Hoping for some enlightenment from someone who knows plenty more about this than I do! Thanks in advance, Jewell

Hi Jewell, I reproduced your issue, and I did a lot of research but didn’t find the reason. Apparently the email items dragged to the discussion list in Outlook were synced to the SharePoint discussion list successfully, but it made people feel a little worry about whether there were some risks, when the items copy also appeared in the Conflicts folder. I suggest you to post a feedback about this issue to the SharePoint product group via the following link, http://connect.microsoft.com/site428 Thanks, DanielRegards, Daniel

Hi Daniel, Thanks so much for looking into this for me. And I'm glad you were able to reproduce the problem (I'm not crazy, then!). We've been scratching our heads too. We're due to swap out machines and operating systems soon, so maybe that will resolve the issue. This is the first time we've been attempting to integrate SharePoint and Outlook so there were no local experts I could bug about issues. Also, it's work stuff, so any potential data loss is important. I've decided to clear out entries older than 30 days in that folder to keep it from becoming a lag on the system. I will post a feedback. Many Thanks, Jewell Thanks in advance, Jewell
