MOSS 2007 This list or library contains a large number of items.
I have a library showing "This list or library contains a large number of items.". The library contains only 1300 items. 1. Would the performance, e.g., upload files/change item properties, be affected? 2. Any way I can better organize the items? 3. I kown we can create folders in a library, how can I create subfolder? Or subfolder refers to Content Type? 4. Would create content type improves performance? Many thanks.

HI, Using folders and Views to view content is the most common way. A document taxonomy should be created that describes all of the site columns and information to collected, then site columns created contining the metadata vales. Content types that conatin the site columns to be added to every document library.Cntent types will improve your ability to create, manage and find information everyone is using the same terms to describe a document, by adding the site columns to the metadata properties beiung crawled you can create drill downs so that you are continually narrowing your search parameters to find what you are looking for. Start small create the site columns to be used on the library with the 1300 docs then add them to a Content type and require that they be used. Later you can create views with filters based on the Site Column values. In the mean time changne the default view from AllItems to a view that has a filter.. -IvanIvan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.

Hi Ivan, My main issue is the performance of the sharepoint site is greatly affected, it take 5 minutes to upload a report. And I am afraid it is due to the fact that I got "This list or library contains a large number of items". Please advise if update items to specific content type will help remove this warning message and improve the performance. Thanks!
