MOSS 2007 Site random theme color change site crash
Ok. Strange one here. We have a black OOTB theme that we have on a subsite. I have a screenshot showing that the site has magically rendered BLUE. Different theme color. And, right after the color change - the user has to reboot because the site is down. A reboot resolves it. This is intermittant. LOCALLY on each of the web front ends - the site renders correctly. This site is in LOCAL INTRANET zone. User is using IE. There are no clear errors on the servers. I am now aware of any network issues. Has anybody seen, or know how in the world - this could be happening? if my post is helpful - please click on the green arrow. (please excuse, in advance, any perceived sarcasm/humor - as I often forget it does not translate through text) :)

Hi Greg, from your description it looks like more over IE issue and definitely a machine specific. are all users facing this issue? or a particular user is affected ? add site into trusted sites and then try. Also check the site is inheriting default master page set by admin.Warm Regards, Pratik Vyas | SharePoint Consultant | http://sharepointpratik.blogspot.com/ | Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights

I agree. I blamed it on local IE issue too. However, it's randomly happening with several unlucky users. It's the strangest thing - the site is normally black - and when the site starts screwing up ... the theme turns BLUE (default) and then the site grinds to a halt. When they reboot/restart the browser (sometimes) the problem goes away. We are NOT using any loadbalancing other then round robin DNS w/ 2 IP's on the A-Record. The URL's are in "Local Intranet" as well already (have been for several years). It does have somewhat of a custom masterpage ... however, I don't get the intermittence. Sounds like a potential caching issue. Is this a site with Publishing enabled? Be sure you have the SuperUser and SuperReader configured properly as this can return odd caching behavior.Imagine what we could be...if we could just imagine. | Daniel A. I am reading into this ... I am thinking that your advise *may* be related to SP2010. Right? I am looking in my web policy on my MOSS 2007 farm and I have my SVC account (Full Read/Full Control) ... my crawl account (Full Read) and my "LOCAL SERVICE" (Full Read) in the policy for web application. Am I missing something. Also, note that this is not across the entire webapp - it's isolated to pretty much one site collection. It is also extremely intermittent and a diverse group of users were affected. It was strange, because I had 1 CA + 2 WFE servers (DNS LB) and one WFE was serving the "Evil Blue Theme" consistently so badly that I just powered the machine off ... thinking that the problem would die with the server. However, the issue came back a week later (of course, with another user) I would not believe it ... but I have the screenshot to prove it - the site has a black theme and the user gets the same URL with a "blue theme" and the site starts to degrade until the user reboots. Yeah, weird. I don't' get it. It hasn't happened for about 10 days or so ... so, i'll do what all us IT people do when we have no idea and pretend that it won't happen again. if my post is helpful - please click on the green arrow. I wouldn't expect it across the entire web app, as it is mostly associated with the publishing feature, which is enabled at the site collection, then site level and has to do with how SharePoint serves up its cached content. You might try clearing out the blob cache on your WFE's and see if that helps clear it up.Imagine what we could be...if we could just imagine. | Daniel A.
