MOSS 2007 SP1 .xlsx documents opening within browser instead of external applications
We are running MOSS SharePoint 2007 Service Pack 1. Lately the users have been getting Office 2010 installed. We have noticed, in at least one document library, that when the users click on the names of .doc, .docx, or .xls files , the external application opens. However, in that particular doc library, clicking on an .xlsx document results in an attempt to display the spreadsheet within the page. We would rather not do that, because the spreadsheets could have Excel 2010 specific features in them that wouldn't display as expected within a web page. When I look at the document library settings > advanced settings > Browser enabled documents, it is set to "open in client application". The library is not set up to use content types. I checked the site and site collection features, and neither have a feature of opening document in external application. I would like to set up this doc library so that clicking on an .xlsx document results, by default, in it opening in an external application. Does anyone have tips or can point to a specific recipe for setting that up? Thank you.

Hi lvirden, There are some compatibility problems between SharePoint 2007 with Office 2010, please refer to this blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/natebaum/archive/2010/06/04/sharepoint-2007-and-office-2010.aspx So i suggest you use Office 2007 with SharePoint 2007. If you still want to Achieve your above requirement, and still use Office 2010, i can give you a workaround to solve this issue: Use Javascript re-bind the list documents click event, then add custom open document Javascript code to it, please refer to the following links: How to change the onclick event javascript associated with an Item in a document library: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointdevelopment/thread/40b756f3-64dd-473d-aa5b-c8b3695de286 Using JavaScript to Open Excel and Word Files in HTML: http://www.kavoir.com/2009/01/using-javascript-to-open-excel-and-word-files-in-html.html Also, we can configure Internet Explorer to open Office documents in the appropriate Office program instead of in Internet Explorer: http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?scid=kb%3ben-us%3b162059 Thanks, Lhan Han
