MOSS 2007 Cannot connect to configuration database after installing AD
Hi, I'm facing Cannot connect to configuration database error while trying to access my site. This happened after I installed Active Directory and made my sharepoint server the domain controller, which I know was a big mistake. I then demoted domain controller and uninstalled AD, but the problem is all configured accounts are gone and groups such as WSS_ADMIN_WPG, WSS_RESTRICTED_WPG and WSS_WPG too. I created these groups manually and managed to start Sharepoint Services Administration service with newly created account so Central Administration is working, but I was unable to fix access to my portal site. Any help in solving this problem would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Sound disastrous... Your best bet is to run SharePoint Product and Technology Configuration Wizard again on all servers in your farm (I guess in your case it's All-IN-ONE). If that doesn't work, rebuild the farm.... it doesn't take long, but guarantee you to have a good night sleep without getting calls from your manager. Thanks for your reply! I tried to run this wizard but it failed with strange error on step 3. After getting that error I created WSS_ADMIN_WPG, WSS_RESTRICTED_WPG and WSS_WPG groups and added account for central administration service to them and configuration process went a bit further, but still failed on step 5. So you mean I need to backup all sharepoint databases, create new farm and connect it to the backuped databases?

In my opinion, rebuilding the farm is easier in this case. - Backup all content databases - screenshot or note down all your configurations (AAM, web app settings, anyother settings in central admin site) - backup SSP - backup other customization you have (physical files of customizations sit under web site virtual directory and 12 hive) - PRAY! - rebuild farm (try to quit farm running the Wizard, hopefully you'll be able to exist the farm that way..) - restore Cheers, Allen Wang | http://blogs.msdn.com/allenwang

Thanks for the solution you provided, luckily after playing with some permissions Sharepoint configuration wizard succeeded and I managed to access my site.
