MOF syntax error 0x84BB0001 installing SQL Server 2014 Management Studio

I have been struggling with this for days and tried every solution I have found without success. This is keeping me from working and is getting really frustrating.

I am trying to install SQL Server 2014 Management Studio on two workstations. One has Windows 8.1 installed, The other Windows 7. I recently update my windows server from 2012 Essentials to 2012 R2 Essentials. I created new domain users and made them administrators on both workstations.

I have not been able to install any edition on either of the workstations. I get the same exception: MOF syntax error 0x84BB0001

Please help while I still have some hair left!

Looking in the log file I see that there is a 'Access Denied' compiler error. As the login is an Administrator and I used the 'Run as administrator' option when executing the installer, I do not know where else to look.

Is this error happening on corporate workstations or your own personal systems? I ask because in many organizations I have been in one of the rights needed for SQL Server software to install is blocked by default on client workstations by Group Policy. Open up gpedit.msc and check that the account you are using to do the install has the following rights:

Backup files and directories

Debug programs

Manage audit and security log

If it does not have all of those rights get it added, log out and back in and retry the install. If it is still failing post the most recent detail.txt log from the setup bootstrap log so others can help troubleshoot the root cause.

I made sure that the installing user had the rights that Joie Andrew suggested. It did not work. I have the most recent detail.txt. It is slightly over 3MB in size. I can email it but it is a little to long to post here.
