MDT (USMT) Migration of Windows XP to Windows 7 with C: drive formatted and without any data loss
Hi, My client is having the following requirement, They need their XP machice which has a single partition C: with huge user data to be migrated to Windows 7 using MDT ,they want the C: drive to be formatted without loosing any data(data should not be backed up to any network share or moved away from the system). We suggested the hardlink migration using USMT, so that the data is preserverd within C: drive. But this method does not formats the C: drive.(please explain me what actually MDT (USMT) does with this C: drive, is it either formats or defragments or just detele specific file and folders?) Please guide me Using MDT how can i format C: and also preserve the data within the system itself (no choice of moving it anywhere from the system) Thanks in Advance.

This forum is for SCCM (not MDT), buf If you use hardlink, there is no way to format the drive... instead diskpart is cleaning the disk, leaving out the folder holding the hardlink backup... If a format is necessary, you must either go with SMP, (or backup share in MDT).. this goes for MDT as well as SCCMMichael Petersen | My blogs: blog.coretech.dk/mip and SCUG.dk/ | Twitter: @OSDeploy | Linkedin: Michael Petersen
