Lync (Skype for Business 2015) wont work after windows update

I did a windows update on 8/17/2015 and there were a ton of updates in it. After doing it, I am not able to get my lync working. When I am trying to launch Lync, a flash page comes up and says Lync is Starting..., that's it. No progress after that. I see it is running under the Background processes in TaskManager. I checked the evenvwr for any installation or application errors, there is nothing logged under Administrative Events/ Application/System/Security. I googled for this issue for couple weeks and some say it would be something wrong with sound card, video card, or remove the lync from appdata and registry key. I did all that nothing works. I did even tried completely uninstalled ms office 2013 and reinstalled. Still no luck.

In addition to that, if I am working on Visual Studio (2013)/ SQL server (2012), if I lock my computer and unlocks it, it hangs. I could only restart at that time. So everytime I wanted to step away from computer, i would need to close Visual studio/sql server and then lock my computer. This is really a pain.

I have windows 8.1, 64bit. MS Office 2013.

Any kind of help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Durga.

Hi

Perhaps there was a problem applying one or more of the windows updates that may have not installed correctly that is causing you issues. Have you tried going to windows control panel > programs > view installed updates and uninstalling all the updates to the point where you believe the issue was not present?

Have there been any Microsoft driver updates? Sometimes when you do not use vendor drivers and using Microsoft compatible ones, your hardware complains and you experience random issues.

Do you have a system restore point you can revert to?

thanks

I guess that you checked and all services are running, right? Did you see if you have any errors in Event Log, Applications, Lync Server?

Thanks Mark for you response. There are about 1600 updates, it's hard to go each one of them and check. :(. I am also waiting to see if any new windows update can fix it. I see there are about 100 of updates with "Update for Microsoft Windows" and others are related to Microsoft Office, Lync... My windows update was configured to never install drivers.

I going to consider that system restore as last option.

Thanks

Hi,

From the description above, it could be the issue of the Windows Update.

Try to uninstall the update about Lync/Office on 8/17/2015, restart computer to have a test.

Also try to rollback to the Windows default audio/video driver to check the issue.

Best Regards
