Login fails in IE but works with Chrome and Firefox (XP and 7)
My wife is trying to log in to her company's SharePoint service. We use Firefox 3.6 at home, along with Windows 7. She can log in without any issue (after accepting the certificate downloads and such), but when she tries to open a document with Office ("Open with Word"), she gets the error message of "You must be using IE6 or greater." I understand that. Try to connect to the same SharePoint service in IE (same computer), and after entering the correct username/password combo, it pops back up asking for the username/password. Repeat 3 times and I get kicked out. Broke out an XP netbook, and tried logging in with IE 8. Same result as above with IE on the Windows 7 machine. Tried both Chrome and Firefox on XP, and was able to log in without issue (after accepting the certificate downloads). Any idea what I'm doing wrong, or does the SharePoint person at the office have to do something? My wife works from home, so she really needs to avoid having to go into the office. Thanks in advance!

Hi,try to add the URL of the SharePoint site to the list of "trusted sites"(IE7 or higher) or to "local intranet sites"(IE6) in the web browser.Cheers,Daniel Bugday Web: SharePoint Forum Blog: SharePoint By Bugday

No luck with adding the url to Trusted Sites. I tried adding both the https and http and it didn't work either way. I also just tried it on a whole different WinXP machine with IE8 and had no luck. Again, though, I can access it with Chrome on the same WinXP machine, but can't open the Word docs for editing directly in the SharePoint site. Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem with the login failing from IE but working from Chrome. I reset my password and the login worked fine form IE. The origional password had a % in it could be a character code translation problem.
