Log File Monitoring position reset?
Hi, I am wondering about Log File Monitoring, as Anders is writing here: http://contoso.se/blog/?p=281 "Ops Mgr remember where it read last time and will not read the hole file again, and as I am back on line one now, Ops Mgr consider that line as read" Can i reset this log file monitoring so it starts to read the log file from line 1 again? Or somewhere control where i want it to read? Because Applications dont always create multiple logfiles, sometimes they write over the old data and then the monitoring stops to work. Log Files cannot grow forever.. :) Anyone? /Maekee

Hi You would need to build a scripted solution. Anders has something that might work as a basis here: http://contoso.se/blog/?p=1187 Then build some login in - either save a datecreated property to the registry and read that each time. If it has changed then you have a new log file. Or save a count of the number of lines in the log file and if that has reduced then you know that the you have a new log file. It certainly isn't straight forward and you may get more luck on the Authoring forum. Good Luck GrahamCheers Graham View OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

I guess you could also use Opalis here. Opalis can integrate with Operations Manager to generate an alert when there is some special string in the logfile.Anders Bengtsson | Microsoft MVP - Operations Manager | http://www.contoso.se
