Log - Unexpected While initializing navigation, found Page placeholder but object was not found at
Our error logs are FULL of entries such as this: 09/15/2008 12:18:18.27 w3wp.exe (0x4480) 0x2EB4CMS Publishing 0UnexpectedWhile initializing navigation, found Page placeholder but object was not found at: /SITES/GPW/PAGES/PROFESSIONALDEVELOPMENT.ASPX. The entries all seem to be Publishing Pages. We are also seeing these entries in the error log about 2 per second. 09/15/2008 12:17:43.61 w3wp.exe (0x4480) 0x0DE0SharePoint Portal Server WebParts 8dxrUnexpectedSearchBoxEx AfterDeserialize begin 09/15/2008 12:17:43.61 w3wp.exe (0x4480) 0x0DE0SharePoint Portal Server WebParts 8dxtUnexpectedSearchBoxEx AfterDeserialize end I'm not in charge of these servers and don't have full access. It's a medium farm, upgraded (via gradual upgrade) to MOSS. I don't believe SP1 is on yet. Has anyone seen these errors? I can't believe it is good for performance.

Hi Stacey, The error message Unexpected While initializing navigation, found Page placeholder but object was not found at: /SITES/GPW/PAGES/PROFESSIONALDEVELOPMENT.ASPX indicates the page that the web part is trying to reference has "lost" its navigation properties, or become corrupt. Here is a workaround for your reference: 1. Delete the page to the recycle bin, 2. Check the logs to see if the error still occurs 3. If not, restore the page from the recycle bin About the other issue, I suggest you to apply SP1 to solve it. Here is the download link for your convenience: The 2007 Microsoft Office Servers Service Pack 1 (SP1) (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ad59175c-ad6a-4027-8c2f-db25322f791b&displaylang=en) Hope the information can be helpful. -lambertPosting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

we are seeing the same issue and we have installed SP1 as well as the latest update. If deleting the page does not resolve the issue what do you do then?3/17/2009 13:13:22.02 w3wp.exe (0x0A54)0x1684CMSPublishing 0UnexpectedWhile initializing navigation, found Area placeholder but object was not found at: /APPLICATIONS.

I'm experienceing the same error. The proposed solution above is not an option as this error is occuring for multiple pages in the site.

I am having the same problems too. I have applied SP1, and deleting the pages is not an option as we also have multiple pages that have the same error.

I am now experiencing the "While initializing navigation, found Page placeholder but object was not found..." log entries after applying December 2010 update. Turning off/Ignoring these log entries is not a resolution for me because (I think it really means something)on all subsites that are set to inherit global navigation no global menu is appearing. Does anyone have another resolution to this issue?

Seems like this is a nice little common error that keeps popping up with no good resolution. I've got it too.

I've got them too...lots of them. MOSS 2007 with the October 2010 CU. Has anyone noticed any issues with performance that might be related to these entries?

I've got them too...lots of them. MOSS 2007 with the October 2010 CU. Has anyone noticed any issues with performance that might be related to these entries? Yeah I do. My error occurs when loading the subnavigation/treeview. "Looking" for the pages in submenu takes forever. Some pages w/ subnavigation activated takes over 20 secs to load which is a major problem.
