Location Request Failed
Hi, Have been trialing SCCM 2007 with the following config: Single Primary Site on a single LAN (MP, DP SQL Database etc) PXE component with WDS installed on a seperate computer running DHCP All components and clients on the same subnet The client, boots into the initial boot environment with the SCCM splash screen and the message windows is starting is displayed, then preparing network connections appears briefly, this all disapears and about 10 seconds later the client reboots. Digging out the log file on the clinet, it would appear that it finds the boot files, recognises the location of the MP and even retrieves the policy from the MP. But, and here is the catch, once it downloads the policy it appears that the information provided states that the boot image is not on any DP;s see below: CLibSMSMessageWinHttpTransport:end: URL: BODGIT3.Christaylor.org.uk:80 GET /SMS_MP/.sms_pol?{2fdf78a9-f014-4f46-865b-b4edc3828117}.3_00TSPxe21/12/2007 20:45:441352 (0x0548)found a secure policyTSPxe21/12/2007 20:45:441352 (0x0548)decoding policyTSPxe21/12/2007 20:45:441352 (0x0548)Reading Policy Body.TSPxe21/12/2007 20:45:441352 (0x0548)Parsing Policy Body.TSPxe21/12/2007 20:45:441352 (0x0548)Found NetworkAccessUsername/NetworkAccessPassword from NAAConfig CCM_NetworkAccessAccountTSPxe21/12/2007 20:45:441352 (0x0548)Network Access Account has a non-empty valueTSPxe21/12/2007 20:45:441352 (0x0548)Getting local network information.TSPxe21/12/2007 20:45:441352 (0x0548)GetAdaptersAddressess entry point is supported.TSPxe21/12/2007 20:45:441352 (0x0548)DhcpGetOriginalSubnetMask entry point is supported.TSPxe21/12/2007 20:45:441352 (0x0548)Adapter {8E67DB41-8C32-43F5-81BD-CC22577FB9C9} is DHCP enabled. So I'm now at a bit of a loss. it would appear that the policy the client receives does not provide details of the DP locations. I have distributed other packages froom the same infrastructure with no problem, re-installed the MP, with no effect, same with the PXE point, again with no effect. Any help on this would be appreciated, my next step today is to try and modify th initial boot sequence to pause and give me a command prompt if that is possible so I can check IP Addresses etc, but it looks like all of that is ok, Thanks Chris

Hrmm.. Try some of these things: - Verify that your site boundaries match up with the DHCP scope relevant to the PXE booted machines. - When importing the computer object into ConfigMgr and assigning it to the right collection / TS, try importing both the GUID and MAC details, not just the MAC. - Try Clearing the last PXE advertisement on the relevant SMS computer object. The things ive listed above probably dont seem relevant, but i had the same / similar symptoms and the last 2points above fixed the issue for me. Good luck!

Hi, If it was the same problem as me, you'll hang your head in shame. The logs show this: Found 0 DPs in subnet, 0 DPs in local site, and 0 DPs in remote location.TSPxe21/12/2007 20:45:471352 (0x0548)!lsDPList.empty(), HRESULT=80040102 (e:\nts_sms_fre\sms\framework\tscore\resolvesource.cpp,1894)TSPxe21/12/2007 20:45:471352 (0x0548)FALSE, HRESULT=80040102 (e:\nts_sms_fre\sms\framework\tscore\tspolicy.cpp,1150)TSPxe21/12/2007 20:45:471352 (0x0548)Content location request for 0010000B:3 failed. I've only been working with SMS for a few years, thats my excuse....honest, Hope this helps

even though this thread is old i'm replying to it in the hope that it'll help someone looking for an answerI have had this exact same problem today and resolved it by deleting the package in question (package status had access errors), then re-created the package, re-added it, re-distributed it, verified it was done, then edited the Task Sequence to point to the new package IDhere's how I did that in screenshotsonce done, my deployment continued as normal (first time in 24 hours of troubleshooting)no idea WHY it suddenly couldn't read the DP for the package in question, as I could phsyically browse it and all looked ok,but at least I have a workaround that works for me,the key to resolving this was verify what SMSTS.log said (Failed to resolve selected task sequence dependencies. Code(0x80040102) error) then verifying the Package Status in ConfigMgr itself.I hth someone, cheersanyweb

do you have a DNS Server in site so client machines can resolve DP? hit F8 try to ping DP from a client machine... sounds like DNS related problem.

When I reconfigured my boundaries, I still had problems but now the error had changed to: Found 1 DPs in subnet, 0 DPs in local site, 1 DPs in remote location and 0 Multicast But still I had other errors like these: Failed to resolve selected task sequence dependencies. Code(0x80040102) Exiting with return code 0x80040102 SDMPackage node not found in the policy assignment property Content location request for PACKAGEFOLDERNAME:4 failed. (Code 0x80040102) Failed to verify existence of \\SERVERNAME\SMSPXEIMAGES$\SMSPKG\BEL00001 I solved the problem by checking the access rights to the SMSPKG and granting everyone full control. When I did and restarted the PC went all the way I think there is a way around this and this is to grant the PXE Service Account the same rights on the share. Problem Solved!

Hi Chris,If you have set your distribution point as a protected system and not included the subnet in the list of sites, you will get this error.Go to Site Management -> SITE NAME -> Site Settings -> Site Systems Select your distribution point. Select "ConfigMgr site System" and click on Properties of the Site System. If there is a tick next to "Enable this site system as a protected site system" then click on the "Select Boundaries..." button and ensure the subnet you have created exists in the list. If not - that is your problem. Add it and (provided your packages have been distributed to the DP as noted by Chris901) you should not have a problem. RegardsAnthonyAnthony Sheehy - .net

I too had this issue but resolved it by selecting:Configuration manager->site database->computer management->software distribution -> advertisements -> right click on the advertisement you want to edit and choose properties -> "distribution points" Tab -> tick "when no local distribution points is available, use a remote distribution point" and "when no protected distribution point is available, use an unprotected distribution point.-http://brothertu.blogspot.com/2009/01/content-location-request-for-apps.htmlMike Crowley: MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator

well anyone getting this issue should check the site boundary and also the above mentioned which is copied below Configuration manager->site database->computer management->software distribution -> advertisements -> right click on the advertisement you want to edit and choose properties -> "distribution points" Tab -> tick "when no local distribution points is available, use a remote distribution point" and "when no protected distribution point is available, use an unprotected distribution point. Thanks Mike Crowley and Most importantly make sure all you packages have been added to a distribution point !! Thats it and your well on your way to a successful deployment.

Sorry to dig this up again because it's a little old but I was also having the same issue and thought I would share my resolution: I was getting the following in smsts.log: Found 0 DPs in subnet, 0 DPs in local site, 0 DPs in remote location and 0 Multicast DPs We have site protection turned on and it seems the AD guys had moved or misconfigured a subnet, we protect distribution points with AD sites, changed the site to the correct one and it worked ok.

Hi All, Though its old blog I want to share my experience how I fixed today. Just find that package with package id and see it is distributed or not on DP if yes then delete package and recreate and distribute to DP. It will work.In my case I did not distribute *****configuration manager client upgrade***** and later I checked and distributed all started working wonderfully.I think SCCM is fair to play with Admins with support of logs:) Good luck Many thanks, Ameen.
